JBA is committed to fostering environments where every individual has a fair opportunity to thrive and reach their fullest potential. Our approach is rooted in understanding and respecting the different experiences, cultures, and identities that shape our communities.
We aim to drive meaningful change by embedding equity into policies, programs, and practices informed by our evaluation research and technical assistance. This requires us to—
- Identify barriers that limit access and opportunities for all individuals and groups
- Collaborate and learn with clients and communities to cocreate innovative and inclusive strategies and solutions
- Implement methods that address community and system needs, build on strengths, and create opportunities that empower all individuals
- Use data to assess progress and impact and inform strategies for continuous improvement
- Ensure sustainable approaches that support long-term success
Our equity strategy focuses on three dimensions to ensure the staff and culture embody this commitment:
Normalize. We promote a shared understanding of equity by establishing common language, frameworks, and concepts that guide our work. These tools help us create inclusive spaces, raise awareness of equity issues, address barriers, and support accountability.
Organize. Our internal infrastructure and external partnerships leverage equity expertise, unique perspectives, and lived experiences and support capacity building activities. This inclusive, collaborative approach ensures that equity is incorporated throughout all aspects of our work.
Operationalize. We embed an equity perspective in our technical work by consistently applying an equity framework to proposals, activities, and products. Our tools and frameworks assess the impact of policies and practices on communities and ensure our work supports fair and equitable outcomes.
Our efforts also include—
- Training and coaching to enhance staff understanding and application of equity principles
- Practical tools and resources to incorporate equity into all stages of our work
- Collaborative workgroups that provide space for reflection, discussion, and innovation sharing
- Supportive spaces where staff can connect, share experiences, and foster community based on common identities and interests
- Ongoing education through discussion, workshops, and shared learning opportunities that build knowledge and strengthen our commitment to equity
