April is the Month of the Military Child
More than 1.6 million U.S. children have at least one parent in the military, serving at home or overseas. April is recognized as the Month of the Military Child to honor the sacrifices made by military families. A new brief from JBA’s National Home Visiting Resource Center (NHVRC) speaks to the role of home visiting in supporting military families and highlights four innovative efforts.
Military families face unique challenges—from juggling frequent moves to coping with the deployment of loved ones. That’s why they are a priority population for the federal Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program. Improved understanding of military stressors and culture could help many home visiting programs tailor their services for maximum benefit.
