Journal Article and Webinar Explore Health Promotion Through Arts-Based Strategies
A new article by JBA’s Julie Leis and Colleen Morrison appears in Arts in Public Health, a special supplement of the journal Health Promotion Practice.
The article, An Integrative Review of Arts-Based Strategies for Addressing Pain and Substance Use Disorder During the Opioid Crisis, was developed through a project funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. It summarizes and synthesizes the evidence on the role of the arts in the management of pain and the prevention and treatment of substance use disorder. As the U.S. health care system moves toward greater integration of physical and behavioral health, the research suggests arts-based interventions should be considered among potential complementary approaches.
Join Leis, Morrison, and other contributors to the supplement in a webinar on May 19 as they discuss related evidence-based practices and frameworks for improving mental health outcomes. Participants may earn continuing education credits through the webinar, sponsored by the Society for Public Health Education.
