Assessing infants and toddlers in early care and education settings can help teachers understand how kids are organizing their development and provide needed supports. Assessment tools found to be reliable and valid for older children may not work as well for infants and toddlers due to rapid changes in their development.
This toolkit stems from a project exploring infant toddler teachers’ use of the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) in California. It is designed to helps teachers observe and rate the Approaches to Learning—Self-Regulation (ATL-REG) domain of the DRDP. It contains—
- An overview of what children’s development in the ATL-REG domain looks like across the DRDP levels
- Definitions of each measure within the ATL-REG domain from the DRDP
- Questions to prompt thinking about the big developmental ideas within each measure
The current toolkit is based on feedback from 17 infant toddler teachers who completed a worksheet capturing their experience during the codesign and testing process. That worksheet is also included in appendix B.
