Substance Use
Many children in the child welfare system have a parent with a substance use disorder, according to the Administration for Children and Families.
In recent years, the opioid crisis has had a particularly devastating effect on families, and knowledge about the lasting effects of prenatal exposure to alcohol has increased.
JBA conducts research and evaluations that help the field prevent, identify, and address substance use in families. For example, researchers document current practices related to prenatal exposures and help determine and disseminate best practices. We also provide formative evaluation findings that serve as technical assistance to facilitate comprehensive, effective services for families affected by substance use.
